Black Socialites?
Filed Under I'm Just Sayin... | Leave a Comment
I was reading a post about how Socialite Rank, a website that basically profiles and reports on the life of socialites, was closing down.
If you look at the picture (click on it to see a larger view in a new window), you can see that there are no black socialites pictured.
It’s not that I’m upset about it, but it just seems weird to me. Yes, there’s Genevieve Jones (who I only just found out about in the 5 minutes before posting this). And Rachel Roy… who doesn’t really count because she’s Dutch and Indian, whether or not she’s kicking it extra hard with Damon Dash.
Short of that… I was stumped…
To me, a socialite (despite an official definition being “a socially prominent person”) is someone who is the child of rich parents and can basically spend the majority of their time just being out there.
I’m just wondering, is it that all the kids of successful black moguls are sitting at home, minding their business? Or is it that the mainstream media doesn’t want to cover them?
Just wondering… not trying to excessively fuel the fire, just stirring the pot a little…
New Video : Rihanna - Umbrella
Filed Under Video Time! | Leave a Comment
Okay. I first heard this song about a month ago… didn’t get past the first 30 seconds of it. Rihanna is a beautiful girl, but um, to put it nicely… not as beautiful a singer. Still, I try to give her the benefit of the doubt… kind of hard to do after she ruined Unfaithful for me. Yeah, I know it was her song, but she messed it up.
Back to the topic at hand. Maybe I’ve softened up my ways in my old age. Maybe having a video made the song better for me. But now, I can’t stop singing “ella-ella-aye-aye-aye”. It’s a standard video with elements of hotness (naked silver paint, anyone?), but I like it.
Here’s the video:
Rihanna & Jay- Umbrella (World Premiere)
Just an aside… does the ballet scene kind of remind you of Beyonce’s Green Light? Just saying… (let’s add some fuel to the Beyonce vs Rihanna fight!)

Oh, Canada

So, I’m in Canada. My mom thought it would be a good surprise to celebrate my dad’s birthday with my uncle and his family. They live near Toronto, Canada.
I’ve been here once before. It was a mess. Not Canada, mind you. Just the trip to get to Canada.
Cause’ it’s apparently cheaper to fly into Buffalo and then to drive into Canada.
Last time, I flew separately from my parents, so I ended up waiting in the Buffalo airport for more than two hours. Know what’s exciting about the Buffalo airport? Nothing once you are outside of the terminals and in the baggage claim area. So I had to find a way to entertain myself for two whole hours without the Internet. Pure.Torture.
(I know I’m spoiled… now is not the time to get into that…)
Then after my parents arrived and we were trying to make the trip up to Canada, we got lost. Ended up somewhere in downtown Buffalo… I don’t know. I can’t tell you how we did it, but we were lost for approximately one hour before we were even able to muster any sense of direction.
This time, however, the trip to Canada was smooth, no problems. I guess having the experience helped…
Unfortunately, on the plane this time, I was stuck behind someone who decided to let out a fart every 5 to 10 minutes. For anyone who’s ever been on a plane… you know that’s recycled air. There’s no breeze to take it away… you just hold your breath, hoping that the smell will go away or you get up out of your seat and “escape” the smell for a while. I was in a window seat… so you know what my option was.
I should’ve kicked her seat… every time I smelled a fart. Just a good hard kick each time. Hell, you’re making me suffer, I might as well try to make you suffer for a little bit… petty, yes, I know.
Anyway… it’s 2:45 in the morning. My parents and my uncle and aunt are in the background gabbing the night away. And I still don’t know where I’m going to sleep…
Tomorrow, I’ll be damned if I can’t convince someone to take me to downtown Toronto.

Eve crashed a car that cost how much?
Filed Under WTF?!?!?! | Leave a Comment

Last night Eve had a car accident and was arrested:
Rapper-actress Eve was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence after she crashed a Maserati in Hollywood early Thursday.
The crash occurred about 2:45 a.m. on Hollywood Boulevard, said police Officer Martha Garcia. Eve, whose full name is Eve Jeffers, submitted to testing to determine her blood alcohol level, but the results weren’t immediately available, Garcia said.
Eve was booked on misdemeanor drunken driving and posted $30,000 bail. She is scheduled to return to court May 17.
Now… honestly, as long as she was okay, I would have let this story pass… just another celebrity getting into trouble, let’s hope for the best, whoopty doo.
But do you see the car she was driving when she got into the accident?
A Maserati… a Ma-se-ra-ti!
According to their website, the cheapest car that they have listed is their Coupe series… starting at $79,900.
I don’t know about you, but if I get to drive a car that is worth the same as a small house, best believe that I will be driving around at 20 mph. Not because I want everyone to see me, but because I wouldn’t want to crash the thing.
Well, damn it. I guess if you can post a $30,000 bail, then, whatever… go’n crash whatever you want…

Will Ferrell and Pearl the Landlord from Hell
Filed Under That's Some Funny Stuff Right Thurr... | Leave a Comment
I kinda like Will Ferrell. He’s either hit or miss with me.
Most of the time, he’s a hit. And he doesn’t disappoint with this viral video.
It’s been around for a little while, about a week or so that I’ve know of.
It ’s utterly hilarious and unfortunately I watched it at work and had to contain my laughter.
It features Will Ferrell as he deals with his (comedically) evil landlord, Pearl.
Caution: it involves a good but of cursing so if you’re at work, turn the volume down…

The best site ever.
It’s really a clever marketing tool for Gillette to advertise one of their razors…
It’s actually the best 15 minutes that I spent today.
Basically, you get to create a guy… there’s only for body types/looks to choose from, but hey, whaddaya gonna do?
Then you fill out a four-question “personality quiz” that determines your guy’s personality.
Then you can basically sit there while he gives you endless compliments.
A sample of some of the compliments I got: “I know guys are supposed to be into cars and stuff. I just want to be into you…”
*sigh*
If a guy said that to me in real-life, I’d probably roll my eyes. But when the computerized guy says it… almost swooned. A real live movie-type swoon.
Anyway, play around with it, get your fix.

My artsy guy…

Like most of America and the rest of the world, I have heard about the killings on the Virginia Tech campus.
I would like to express my condolences. I hope that the shooter, Seung Cho, has found the peace he wasn’t able to find here on Earth. I hope that the unfortunate souls that he took with him also find their peace. I know it will be hard for those they left behind.
All I can do right now is pray for everyone involved. I know that they may never know of me or of this blog. But they are in my thoughts.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog. This is a spin off of my pre-existing blog from Blogger. I decided that since I already had this domain name and I had moved back and forth about how I wanted the design for my site to look that I would convert it into a blog.
Mouthful, I know.
Anyway. If you are reading this, welcome. I hope that you will come back and come back often ![]()
I hope that you will enjoy what you read.
