Putting It Off

Procrastination is like masturbation. At first it feels good, but in the end, you’re only screwing yourself.
~Author Unknown
Yesterday night, I was grumbling to myself how pissed off I was with someone (actually, with some people) who kept on saying to me, “When I get such-and-such right, I’m definitely going to do this-and-that.”
And then I realized that I did that a lot. I mean, I say the same thing(s) to myself all the time.
“When the first of the month comes around again, I’m definitely going to start back exercising.”
“When I finish reading this blog, I’m definitely going to finish up my work.”
“When I… Then I’ll…”
Blah blah blah.
Perennial procrastination has been a habit of mine. Nay, it has been a talent. It’s about time for me to change that, no?
They say (yes, they say) that sometimes in order to achieve your goals you must publicize them and let people hold you accountable for that. Now I know that you as the blog reader may not be able to “check up on me” and see if I’m sticking to my non-procrastination goals, but I figure if it’s out there for the world to see then maybe I will hold myself more accountable?
I mean I’m almost 25. (Ha! Countdown is on! Less than one week to go!).
I figure it’s at least time to start playing like I’m grown-up. Maybe if I fake it long enough, I’ll make it.
Happy Halloween!

The one day of the year where people can walk around looking crazy and no one thinks twice about it.
Sorry to the people I ripped this picture from… at least I’m not ripping your bandwidth too! Happy Halloween?
Throwback: Janet Jackson - You Want This

The janet. album was the beginning of my love affair with Janet… I (accidentally) pilfered my uncle’s copy of it (okay, it wasn’t accidental, I just thought I was being slick.
And even though I felt a twinge of guilt every time I looked at the CD cover with his name emblazoned on it in permanent marker, the guilt was erased by turning the volume knob to the right a little bit more. Anyway, one of my favorite songs from this album…
I remember being fascinated by the dance breakdown (4 minutes in - Tina Landon, where have you been?) and the glory that was/is Janet’s abs.
Enough of the Janet worship… I usually try to keep that under wraps! LOL!
What Do You Think About It?

I read a quote today:
“Social progress can be measured by the social position of the female sex.” - Karl Marx
Very profound. And kind of weird because about an hour before reading the quote, I found that after clicking through different links on different pages that I had gotten myself on the Karl Marx Wikipedia page. Funny. What started from a story about a Wagner opera turned into my trying to see if I could get an understanding of what communism is all about. Of course, all of that was too heavy to deal with while at work. Maybe one day, I’ll get a book on it…
Anyway, back to the quote.
“Social progress can be measured by the social position of the female sex.”
What type of social progress are we making? As a human race? As a country? In the Black community?
How are women viewed? Treated?
I’m interested in any reader’s insight about this quote.

Thank You

Definitely feeling much better.
100%?
Not quite, but mostly there. I’m just glad she lived a full life.
Loved reminiscing with my mom about memories of her and I, even those that I didn’t remember (from babydom)
Thanks for all your condolences.
(Don’t worry, the biting wit and insightful criticisms - don’t laugh - will continue soon enough… I’ve been biting my tongue about some stuff)

I write this through tear-filled eyes and when I am somewhat sane again, I may add more.

It’s Still an Ugly Dress, but Who Rocked It Best?

I had been MIA for a few days so I’ve been catching up on reading through my favorite blogs.
Some of the blogs I read have a “Who Rocked It Best?” competition where two or more different celebs are wearing the same or similar outfits and you (the readers) decide who looks best in it… yada yada.
So, I’ve come across this dress on two different blogs. I hate the dress (and for the record, I’m nowhere near a fashionista). I think the dress is s#iteous, it does nothing for either girl.
But if you are so inclined, tell me who you think rocked it best?

When I watch videos like this and reminisce, I get a little hope in my heart for today’s youth.
Because when I shake my head at all the “Crank Dat” dances/videos/songs and wonder why something so inane is so popular, it reminds me of how we (my friends/cousins and I) were at that age. I distinctly remember that while stuck in the “kids’ room” at my mom’s PhD graduation party, a bunch of us kids were crowded around a small television putting “my hand upon your hip, when you dip, I dip, we dip“.
And I think of how we look back on the foolishness (fondly, of course) and say to ourselves, “Wow, did we really like that s#it?” I think (I hope) that one day, it will be their turn to wonder why “Yule!” was so important to them and to reminisce on those good carefree times.
Anyway, enough of all of that sentimental, hope-filled drivel.
Here’s “Da Dip” by Freak Nasty.
