I’m sorry. The perfect end to the year: LOLCats and YouTube.
Once again, Happy New Year.
Don’t know what “Don’t Taze me bro” means? Look there (wait until about 1 minute and 55 seconds in):
New Year, New Plans
Filed Under Tayo Speaks, What Do You Think? | 2 Comments

Even though my boy Sincere (Happy Birthday!!!) is denying himself the perennial joy of making new year’s resolutions, I have decided to make some of my own.
These are things I feel I need to do in my life to make me better (it’s just easier to declare these things at the beginning of a new year).
- Be friendlier to people. Don’t get me wrong, I am friendly but I’m shy. And at times I tend to consider what benefit I may gain if I talk to such-and-such person. My goal is to have more friendly, random, “meaningless” conversations with new people throughout the year. I’ve been reading How to Talk to Anyone
by Leil Lowndes and I think it’s great for getting me going on this path.
- Eat more vegetables. Seriously, I have this whole weird Jedi mind trick resistant psychological block against eating vegetables. Not sure where it came from. If you ever meet me, ask me why I don’t eat broccoli. It’s a thrilling story. There’s also the Four Sense test (if it doesn’t look good, doesn’t taste good, doesn’t smell good, feels weird in my mouth). Wow, I said too much. Moving past that, I want to start introducing/re-introducing these foods that I have banned (vegetable or otherwise).
- Miscellaneous. There are always those miscellaneous things that you say you’re going to do. The easily broken resolutions such as lose weight, stop cussing, etc. Those will be in the back of my mind and hopefully some of those will come to pass this year (and every year onwards).
What are your resolutions? Or is there something you would like to accomplish this coming year and for the future? Let me know in the comments.
I’m at work, chillin’ like a villain waiting for 3:30 pm so I can leave (they’re letting us go early, woo-hoo!), so there’s a chance that the might be another post, but if not, have a happy New Year!
And don’t drink and drive. I mean, drink yourself silly if you want to and drive around town if you want to, just not at the same time.
It’s a Step in the Right Direction?

Okay… over the Christmas week holiday, I was exposed to “Independet” by Webbie (featuring Lil’ Boosie and Lil’ Phat).
When I asked what the song was, my cousins looked at me as though I had said the sky is polka-dot green and purple or something. My iPod in the car listening self is so out of touch with today’s hip new music (ha, *eye roll*) So, I blame them for this song getting stuck in my head…
The song and the lyrics are still in that same “great-club-beat-but-no-real-meaning” fashion, so I decided to search for the video. I’ll give it to Webbie (or whoever wrote the video treatment), the video is a step in the right direction.
And by that I mean, that Black women are portrayed in a more positive light and as having more worth than just a video chick.
And a female African American president? And she’s fly? Bonus points.
Also, now all the little kiddies can learn how to spell the word “independent”, yay!
There’s the video.

I’m sitting in the lobby at the Westin Copley Place in Boston. You would think that I wouldn’t have to fight that hard to get internet access, especially since I’m here for a web design conference. But it seems the only way I can get any access is to be in the lobby.
My company decided that they only wanted to pay for the room (as is their right). And unfortunately, I managed to forget the only source of monetary liquidity (did I lose you? I mean, I left my debit/credit card at home and therefore I am assed out).
So therefore, I am not allowed to charge anything to my room even though they made me write out a $150 deposit (damn well better be refundable). The cleaning lady even came in and locked up my mini-bar… like I was really checking for a $3 bag of M&Ms anyway.
So, I’m sitting in the lobby, in my PJ’s, my hair in two messy ponytail braids, one sandal on and one off, trying to tune out the new-age music drifting from the lobby speakers and desperately trying to tune out the annoying pulsing and screeching of the techno coming from their “hip after-hours” lounge and hoping and praying that I don’t meet my future husband while looking like this.
All so I can access the internet…
Reflections on HIV/AIDS

I was really supposed to do a more in-depth article to support the Black Blogging to End AIDS Week, but time slipped away from me. I encourage you to take a look at the wrap-up page on BlackPerspective.net to read what other bloggers have to say about HIV/AIDS.
As for me, in lieu of a full and more in-depth post, I present you my post outline. Take a look and really think about HIV/AIDS.
- People are “used to” HIV/AIDS and the initial flames and scares of the eighties and even some of the nineties have died down to a small flicker. “It’s not as big a deal as it used to be. People can live with AIDS, right?” Definitely, with advances in medicine, it’s possible to live longer with HIV/AIDS. But do you really want to?
- Too often, HIV/AIDS is portrayed as a poor man’s disease or a homosexual disease. It’s marginalized so that people think “It can’t happen to me.” Here are some facts for you:
- As of November 2007, nearly 34 million people (31 million adults and 2.5 million children) are living with HIV.
- In 2007 alone, 2.5 million people were infected with HIV and 2.1 million people died from AIDS.
- 95% of the people living with HIV are from developing countries (that’s 31 million people, ya’ll). The countries with the highest prevalence (in 2004, in order) are Swaziland, Botswana, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. All of these are Southern African countries.
- Of the top 50 countries in order of HIV/AIDS prevalence (as of 2004), Thailand and the Ukraine are the only couunrties not situated in Africa or the Caribbean.
- In 2005, blacks accounted for 49% of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses in the United States.
- The rate of AIDS diagnoses for black adults and adolescents was 10 times the rate for whites and nearly 3 times the rate for Hispanics. (2005)
- The rate of AIDS diagnoses for black women was nearly 23 times the rate for white women. (2005)
- The rate of AIDS diagnoses for black men was 8 times the rate for white men. (2005)
The proliferation of HIV/AIDS thrives on lack of education.
Take some time to educate yourself about the realities of HIV/AIDS.
Thank you to Yobachi of BlackPerspective.net for bringing this up as a topic that we in the blogosphere can help bring to the forefront.
Thank you for reading.

As a Tallahassee representer, I choose to rep for T-Pain and I am jazzed to tell you that he (and Akon - ew) has been nominated for a Grammy for Bartender (he’s nominated in 4 categories total)! And while I don’t too much care for that song, I’m happy that he was nominated. (For the entire list, visit the Grammy site.)
All that means for me is that Tally is just that much more on the map. See, we’re good for more than just politics and football…

LOLCatz of the Day

I saw this on ICanHasCheezburger and thought it was cute.
But seriously, as long as you love yourself, it shouldn’t matter what you look like. Hard to say and believe in today’s society, but I believe it’s true.
Vectoring Rihanna (and Angelina) - First Try
Filed Under Rihanna, What Do You Think?, Vectoring, Graphic Design, Angelia Jolie | 5 Comments
So some of you may know that I’m a web designer in my everyday life. I’ve also been trying to add in some more graphic design expereince in there. I came upon Jerlyn Thomas’s vectoring tutorial and thought I would give it a try.
Here it is. What do you think? I made the pictures small so that I could display it effectively in this blog, but if anyone asks, I can also upload the full size version:

Seriously, I’m asking for comments, so tell me whatever you think about it - constructive only, please.
And I do not claim any copyright over the original images. I found them online. I only claim copyright on the vectored image (the creation, not the subject). There. That should cover me legally…
****UPDATE****
I did another one. Angelia Jolie.
Soon, I’m going to do someone who’s face-forward…
And then I’ll do a guy… I’m afraid of vectoring stubble, though! LOL!
