Montel Williams Speaks Out About Heath Ledger Coverage

One of the reasons I can’t stand watching FoxNews (we can go over all the other issues another time) is that they are ratings whores. I understand that the goal of TV networks is to get high(er) ratings for their programs, but damn.
What Ever Happened to… Taina?
Filed Under Whatever Happened To... | 5 Comments
Okay. My blogging buddy, Invisible Woman (Invisible Cinema: Black Cinema AT LARGE) does a version of this on her blog called the “Milk Carton Alert”. So I’m stealing her idea (thanks, girl!)
Anyway, my cubicle mate kept saying this name “Tyesha” to someone on the phone. I don’t know if they didn’t hear her or just didn’t understand her, but she said it like 5 times in a row. So in my silly head, I started singing “Taina, Taina” (15 special feel good points for anyone who remembers this too).

I’m definitely from that early 90’s to early 2000’s Nickelodeon/SNICK generation. So I was all up on Taina. Because she was living my dream of going to a performing arts school and trying to become a star (I’m still working on that, but that’s a topic for another post). Also, Lisa Lisa played her mom and 3LW guest starred (back before they were the “Cheetah Girls” and they still had the dark skinned chick).
Since the cancellation of the show, Christina Vidal, who played the lead role of Taina, has shown up in various movies (Freaky Friday, I Think I Love My Wife) and TV shows (Girlfriends). She is reportedly releasing an album in 2008 with Lupe Fiasco’s 1st & 15th Entertainment record label. So hopefully we’ll hear more from her.
In the mean time, the theme song that’s been playing in my head for the last 30 minutes:
Traaaggic…

Bill, no matter how big and bad you may think you are, you can’t, repeat, can’t do this a couple of weeks after your wife basically said that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s efforts weren’t shit.
In Remembrance
Filed Under Tayo Speaks | Leave a Comment
I hope you all had a wonderful Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (’cause you know Lyndon Johnson ain’t getting a day anytime soon).
I hope you made the time to reflect on the great strides that he went through in the fight for equality. I attended a Day of Dialogue held by the City of Tallahassee and it was so inspiring to hear everyone’s opinions, from the elderly white-haired lady who stressed the importance of family in claiming/reclaiming sanity and order in the Black community to the single mother who broke down in tears out of the fear for the success of her Black son to the students who asked what more can we do to make things better.
With hope, one day the dream will be achieved.
I’ve Been Tagged
Filed Under Tayo Speaks, Tag! You're It! | 4 Comments
I’ve been tagged again (thanks Mrs. Grapevine!), so now it’s time for me to think of seven more things about myself that I can share with you guys.
The rules are as follows:
Simply link to the person who has tagged you, share seven weird things about yourself, tag seven bloggers to do the same and include a link to their blog, let each person know that they have been tagged and finally post the rules on your blog.
- I’m trying to learn how to smile with my eyes (damn you ANTM!!!!)
- I am a product junkie. I buy things (makeup, hair products) on a whim and use it a few times and get over it. (So bad, I know!)
- I procrastinate because I can sometimes be a perfectionist (if it can’t be done right, don’t do it).
- I always try to find the constellation Orion when looking up at the night sky.
- I secretly hope my daydreams come true.
- I still have my “baby blanket”. Well baby blanket version 2.0 (I will never forgive my mom for throwing out the first version) And I often joke that I’ll bring it with me on my honeymoon.
- My line name for a business fraternity that I pledged was “What Lies Beneath”. That is the most fitting nickname I think I’ve ever gotten.
Sorry, I’m not going to tag anyone this time around, but I’m looking at starting up some new memes and tagging new people.
3-2-1. 1-2-3. What the Heck is Bothering Me?

You know you remember. I tried to find this video clip of Carl Winslow from Family Matters but YouTube failed me so you’ll have to content with that picture.

I love the people at work, but I swear if one more person hums Soulja Boy one more time…
Stepha Henry Update
Filed Under In My Thoughts, Missing, Stepha Henry | 3 Comments
Officials have arrested Kendrick Williams, 32, on suspicions that he killed Stepha Henry. He was arrested in New York City after forensic tests on his car linked him to the victim. This was the same black sedan that was of interest earlier. Wonder why it took seven months to find/link forensic evidence. Prayers go out to Ms. Henry’s family and friends.

Breaking Stuff

Ummm… so, I’m not entirely sure what’s going on with my blog.
My right sidebar has been pushed all the way down and I can’t get it fixed.
I’m trying to get some more features installed and it’s not really working. I know that I might have to *sigh of dread* upgrade my Wordpress version but I’ve had trouble with that before so I’m gun-shy.
So… if you notice anything screwy in the next week or so, don’t be alarmed.
It’s just me breaking stuff…
Thanks much
~Tayo~
(If anyone has any advice, I’m totally open to it!)
Title of the Song

I predict that this song will be one of the biggest ones of 2008.
No.
Of all time!
I mean, the lyrics are so insightful, the video is hot, and so is that lead singer.
Take a look and I dare you to tell me I’m wrong.
Happy Friday!

This post is a whole bunch of stuff rolled into one!
First up, I wanted to show some link love to my new blogging buddy, Marcus Langford, whose Martin post (actually a Tracy Morgan post, but I digress) inspired me for this post.
This Martin clip is the one of the many classics from the show. All you need to know is “That ain’t no damn puppy!” Enjoy!
Second up, since I’m having some random pangs of D’Angelo withdrawal (he just has some pretty lips… okay, I’m back now), and it seems like he’s going to be taking his sweet time to get back at us with a new album. So, here’s some classic D’Angelo. I chose Lady because that when he was fine. Before he got all extra-fine for the ladies (ya’ll saw the video) and then took it back (ya’ll saw the mugshot). Enjoy!
