What Ever Happened to… Taina?
Posted on January 23, 2008
Okay. My blogging buddy, Invisible Woman (Invisible Cinema: Black Cinema AT LARGE) does a version of this on her blog called the “Milk Carton Alert”. So I’m stealing her idea (thanks, girl!)
Anyway, my cubicle mate kept saying this name “Tyesha” to someone on the phone. I don’t know if they didn’t hear her or just didn’t understand her, but she said it like 5 times in a row. So in my silly head, I started singing “Taina, Taina” (15 special feel good points for anyone who remembers this too).

I’m definitely from that early 90’s to early 2000’s Nickelodeon/SNICK generation. So I was all up on Taina. Because she was living my dream of going to a performing arts school and trying to become a star (I’m still working on that, but that’s a topic for another post). Also, Lisa Lisa played her mom and 3LW guest starred (back before they were the “Cheetah Girls” and they still had the dark skinned chick).
Since the cancellation of the show, Christina Vidal, who played the lead role of Taina, has shown up in various movies (Freaky Friday, I Think I Love My Wife) and TV shows (Girlfriends). She is reportedly releasing an album in 2008 with Lupe Fiasco’s 1st & 15th Entertainment record label. So hopefully we’ll hear more from her.
In the mean time, the theme song that’s been playing in my head for the last 30 minutes:

I used to love Taina! I especially loved the episode with 3LW. They did such a great job.
Wow…that was obscure even for me!
I agree with IW, I thought I knew all the minority shows big or small, young or old, but this one escapes me, big time. But, I have seen her on Girlfriends.
Really? Well I’m glad I brought this to your attention(s). Then ya’ll definitely could not have been part of the SNICK set, LOL.
And I guess Teshika is the only one who gets the 15 special feel good points!
YOOOOOOOO she lives around the corner from me.. they still air her show overseas.
