Looking for Janet and Erykah
Filed Under Tayo Speaks, Yahh Bitch Yahh, Janet Jackson, New Music, What Do You Think?, Traaaggic..., Erykah Badu | 6 Comments

O-Kay. As you (should) know, Janet Jackson and Erykah Badu both released an album yesterday. I decided to support these two artists even though I sometimes borrow some people’s songs indefinitely off the Interwebs by going out to buy the CDs.
First stop: Best Buy. Janet was there, Erykah wasn’t. As I held onto Discipline, I wandered the rows of Best Buy looking for someone in a blue shirt who could tell me if there was a copy of Nu Amerkyah hidden in the back for me… no one. All the blue shirts were ghost. F-it. I’ll just go to Target.
Next up: Target. No Janet, no Erykah.
Next: um, Circuit City? Let me state for the record that Circuit City has the weakest selection of CDs. Of course, no Janet, no Erykah. Not even stock copies of “Worldwide Underground”, “Baduizm”, “Velvet Rope”, “Rhythm Nation”, nothing!
And I’ll be damned if I was going to go to Walmart to cop an edited CD. I like all my swears in their place, thanks very much.
So I came home, dejected. That said, has anyone gotten any of these CDs yet (or downloaded them legally or *ahem* not so legally)? What did you think of them? Should I continue my quest tomorrow?
America’s Next Top Model Recap - Cycle 10, Episode 2
Filed Under ANTM Recaps, Tyra | 1 Comment
All right kiddies, it’s time for the second ANTM 10 recap. I know that the first one was a freaking dissertation, so we’ll keep this one much shorter. Ready? Here we go.
First off, I like the new theme music. It’s very stripped down from the previous versions and more staccato.
Anyway, the girls arrive in NYC. Amy changed her name to Amis to avoid the confusion between her and the other Aimee. They are taen to their NY loft with pictures of Tyra and the previous ANTM winners except for Adrianne Curry (cycle 1). Apparently the theme of the house is to find your passion and figure out how to apply it to the real world. How they arrived at that, I have no idea. Atayla mentions that she is homesick because she’s never been on her own. Despite the big “No Smoking” signs on the doors of their loft, Fatima, Amis and Kimberly go out and smoke. Fatima upsets Amis by calling her a clown. It looks like they might be setting Fatima up to be a Jade (Cycle 6) or Lisa (Cycle 5) type character who pisses off the girls by pointing out their flaws.

Every once in a while, I take the time to look through my bulletins on my Myspace. Today I came upon a video for a song by a Nigerian artist Fishe’.
The song is called Africa and basically speaks on the experiences of Africans and the African Diaspora throughout history. So I guess you can say this is sort of my contribution to the recognition of Black History Month (um, yes I know February is almost over… but you can also check out my boy Sincere’s blog who’s been doing a great job of bringing us a whole bunch of Black history facts)
You can learn more about Fishe` on his official website at www.fishe.us or on his MySpace page at myspace.com/fishemusic. His album “Straight Outta Africa” is available at African stores in most major cities across the U.S starting May 2007.
Janet Jackson MTV Ads

If you’ve tuned into MTV long enough, you’ll see these different vignettes from featured artists that come up right before and after the commercials (past artists included Keyshia Cole, M.I.A., Lupe Fiasco and Professor Cornel West).
Well, now that it’s time for Janet to release her tenth studio album, Discipline, it’s time for her to join the club.
(*side note: Discipline comes out tomorrow, February 26*)
I think that Janet does a great job of parodying all these MTV reality shows. I about died laughing at the Making the Band 4/Diddy parody.
Loved. It.
America’s Next Top Model Recap - Cycle 10, Episode 1
Filed Under ANTM Recaps, Tyra | Leave a Comment

The episode begins with a quick recap/countdown of all the events that have gone down in Top Model history, from the cat fights, makeovers, runway spills, etc.
The show begins and we see the 35 semi-finalists on a school bus. Marvita discussing her past experience with ANTM and how she wasn’t ready for to be on the show then but she is now.
The girls are lead into a courtyard. The Jays come out and the girls lose their minds. One of the many scream-fests to come this episode, I assume. Mr. Jay explains that they are the top 35 contests and have been chosen to attend Top Model prep (scream). Shaya, humble thing that she is says she’s excited to be in Top Model school because she studies fashion and likes to create beauty because she is beautiful.
Uh. Huh.

I can already tell you that I am excited to see Marvita back. If you guys don’t remember her, she was one of the would-be models that was cut right before the final thirteen of Cycle 9. I’ d love to see how she does in the competition.
Check below for the CW Promo shot as well as a season preview. I’ll catch you all on Thursday with the first recap!
T-Pain Brings Tallahassee its First Grammy
Filed Under Entertainment News, Tayo Speaks, T-Pain | 3 Comments
I’m late on posting this, but let me say that I am very proud of T-Pain winning a Grammy this past weekend (for guesting on Kanye’s “Good Life”).
I’m pretty sure he’s the first person from Tallahassee, Florida to do so (don’t quote me on that) and let me tell you there are a lot of people here chomping at the bit to become the next Grammy winners (or at least to have a number one ringtone *rolls eyes*)
Living in Tallahassee, I was privy to hearing him with the Nappy Headz as local stars and then to hearing about his growth from local star to national (international?) star. 2007 was definitely the “Year of T-Pain” and saw no less than 13 singles that featured him as the main or guest artist.
So to T-Pain a.k.a. Tallahassee-Pain nee Faheem Najm, congrats!

This is officially my 200th post (yay!) and also marks the one year anniversary of AllTayo (a.k.a. “Talkin’ S#!t” in it’s earlier days…)
I really wanted to do a prolific post and reminisce and make predictions for the future and what not, but I’m just not up to that.
I just wanted to say thanks to the blogging friends I have made over this last year and to all the other readers that have wandered in and out.
I appreciate you all more than you know.
Love lots!
Tayo
Oh yeah, and Happy Valentine’s Day! Go out and love someone. If you can’t find anyone else to love, love yourself.

I used a different method of creating this - i.e. no tracing, shading, etc. I wanted the focus to be on the eyes and mouth. What do you guys think?
