America’s Next Top Model Recap - Cycle 10, Episode 2
Posted on February 27, 2008
All right kiddies, it’s time for the second ANTM 10 recap. I know that the first one was a freaking dissertation, so we’ll keep this one much shorter. Ready? Here we go.
First off, I like the new theme music. It’s very stripped down from the previous versions and more staccato.
Anyway, the girls arrive in NYC. Amy changed her name to Amis to avoid the confusion between her and the other Aimee. They are taen to their NY loft with pictures of Tyra and the previous ANTM winners except for Adrianne Curry (cycle 1). Apparently the theme of the house is to find your passion and figure out how to apply it to the real world. How they arrived at that, I have no idea. Atayla mentions that she is homesick because she’s never been on her own. Despite the big “No Smoking” signs on the doors of their loft, Fatima, Amis and Kimberly go out and smoke. Fatima upsets Amis by calling her a clown. It looks like they might be setting Fatima up to be a Jade (Cycle 6) or Lisa (Cycle 5) type character who pisses off the girls by pointing out their flaws.
The Jays take the girls on a tour of NYC ending up in Time Square where they inform the girls that they’ll be walking in a Badgley Mischka show. During the show, Marvita ended up walking the runway while looking down the entire time and Lauren also came back with her crappy awkward cringe-worthy walk. After the show, Marvita argues with Fatima for not apologizing for an accidental hit in the face.
Back at the loft the girls get their first Tyra Mail which is now on a scrolling marquee. They then go to Elite where they are given critiques by model Paulina Porizkova. Dominique is shocked when Paulina compares her to a drag queen.
After Elite the girls head off t their first photoshoot in a yellow stretch Escalade limo called the “Fab Cab”. Fatima and Marvita argue again when Fatima repeats Paulina’a criticism of Marvita. Marvita calls Fatima the meanest African she’s ever met.
Saleshia’s second “Life As A CoverGirl” has her losing the Tootie hairstyle and replacing it with a simple boring bob. Eh, I vote no.
The girls’ photoshoot is supposed to shine a spotlight on homeless youth. The twist is that some girls who were previously homeless will be wearing high fashion while the models will be dressed in “street wear.” Fatima and Marvita (who made up in the waiting room) both drew upon their own experiences being homeless for the shoot, Amis got too goofy, and Anya was one of the strongest according to Mr. Jay. Later, Kimberly admitted that she doesn’t believe in high fashion and paying high prices for fashion.
Judging begins and we are re-introduced to sexy Nigel and Ms. J. Ms. J’s elimination gimmick for this cycle is a vest with the models’ names on it; names will be removed as they are eliminated. Twiggy is gone and Paulina is introduced as the new judge for the cycle (I absolutely loved that purple dress she was wearing, so glamorous!)
Anya is singled out as the one that the girls should be nervous about, Fatima had a great shot but the rest of her film was bad, and Marvita was criticized for her poor runway walk.
When she is called up to look at her picture, Kimberly admits to the panel that fashion doesn’t interest her. Tyra asks why she came and if she wants to go home. Kimberly says yes (unfortunate because she had one of the best pictures) and walks out of the room as Ms. J rips up her picture. The other girls are not safe though because there will still be an elimination. Claire is chosen as the first CoverGirl of the week at the commercial.
Ms. J rips Kimberly’s name off the jacket and the judges discuss the girls’ photos. I loved Ms. J’s drag voice when they were discussing Dominique. Hi-lar-ious! The girls are called back into the room. Anya is the first name called. Atalya and Amis are the bottom two. Atayla is told that she is pretty but that’s it (resting on pretty?) and Amis is told that she has an interesting look but she is unfocused. Atalya is sent home because Amis has more potential. My question is, didn’t they say the same things about Saleisha last cycle (that she was too commercial)?
Next Week: It’s makeover time and Allison pisses Fatima off.
Right now, I’m still leaning towards Marvita to win, because I love her look, but who knows what will happen with makeovers and all the future photoshoots.
