Happy Friday
Posted on April 4, 2008
It’s been a minute, but Happy Friday everyone. I saw this video a while ago but I’m going to post it today, just for some inspiration…
His name is Ben Underwood and has been blind since he lost his eyes to cancer when he was 2-years-old. He uses echolocation (like dolphins) to get around in everyday life. And he’s so good that you wouldn’t know that he was blind. I love his mom’s encouraging attitude.

the dynamics of the human body are incredible. when we lose one of our senses, the others more than compensate so that life can still continue. however, out of the all of the senses, i would really hate to be without my vision. i am deaf in one ear, but i can still hear. but definitely, i need my vision, my hearing, and my taste :-]
That is amazing and so inspiring. He has a great attitude and is lucky to have a mom who is very positive and encouraging.
Marcus, wow, didn’t know that! I agree with you about the human body, even past the senses. Sometimes I just close my eyes and listen to see if I could actually hear things better. I couldn’t imagine actually having to do that though.
Oyikan, definitely. I think of how parents in this situation (having a blind or otherwise disabled child) could give up on them, but like I said, I love his mom’s attitude and I’m sure that that’s where he got his from. Thanks for dropping by. (BTW, you and my auntie have the same name!)
I saw him and his mother on Oprah, and he is quite amazing.
@ Marcus: I didn’t know that either.
