Today’s Daydream: Higher Education
Posted on August 28, 2008

It’s been in my mind for the last year or so that I want to go back to school. And I’ve arrowed it down to what I want to do: get my MFA in Graphic Design or any other kind of New Media/Visual Design. I’ve gotten the “but you already have a Master’s, you should just go for your PhD” argument from my mom. And people have told me that I don’t have to go back to school to pursue my graphic design career aspirations.
Anyway, I’ve just been thinking real hard about it. I’m loving graphic design more and more each day. So I figure I’ll apply to about 3 or 4 schools, just to see. And if I’m accepted, all the better…

Oooh, I’d love to take graphic design but I don’t have any natural talent in that direction. What did you do your undergrad and Masters in?
Good Naija Girl: I got my undergrad in Management Info Systems (MIS) and my grad in Mass Communications. The first was b/c of influence from my parents, the second was my choice, LOL
Nice! And it looks like the 3rd will be your choice as well!
In my opinion, go for it. Nigerians always want the PhD, like my parents.
It’s always still an option. I also have my Masters but I would have gone to acting school this fall where I could only get an Associate’s degree, if not for finances. But I’m thinking about getting a certification in personal training and also in hairdressing, because although I plan to be an actress, I am interested in those things too. Follow your passion and your heart.
well it’s up to you what you want to do. you can always learn in school but graphic design is something you might need to have in you..like an artistic side..no matter how hard I try it wont happen for me.
anythingBlack, thing about it is that I think I have it in me. I’ve gotten compliments on some of the (graphic design) stuff I’ve done. I just need to find a focus and learn real techniques. I could probably figure it out for myself but school would probably help out a lot… I go back and forth about it.
