We’ll See…

Watching this with a side-eye. It could go either way.

I’m a fan of Family Guy… admittedly I’ve probably seen every episode (thank you Adult Swim) but I dunno about this one.
My heart was a little hurt when I found out that Cleveland was voiced by a white guy. But I guess I should be reassured that Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long and Kevin Michael Richardson have signed on to voice some of the characters? I’m giving Seth McFarlane the benefit of the doubt for, like, three episodes before I make the final judgement. Get the full story here on Yahoo.
Also getting the side eye is Tropic Thunder. Lord knows that Robert Downey Jr is one of my white boy crushes but he’s pushing it with the new age blackface…
What do you think about all these “colorblind” casting choices? Hit me up in the comments.
How Tayo Came to Part With Her Gallbladder, Part 2

We continue on in the saga. If you haven’t read the first part, you can read it here (or just scroll down).
I was sent home from the surgery center with a stack of forms and instruction sheets and a prescription for Percocet (yes, the stuff that people get addicted to!). The most important instruction I received was that I should not eat or drink after midnight. I wish I could remember what my “last meal” was, but honestly I can’t.
That night, I cleaned up my house, got together some things for the hospital and the next day and was asleep by eleven; no use staying up later when I was pretty sure that I was going to end up feeling hungry if I did. I woke up the next morning at 5 a.m. to get ready for the 6:30 a.m. (yes.) surgery. I took my shower and then did a second wash with the betadine scrub that was given to me. My mom came by to pick me up and prayed over me and we were on our way.
Back at the surgery center, we found that I was scheduled as the first patient of the day. Lucky me. We went back into the surgery pre-op/post-op holding area. I was given a hospital gown (you know the backless ones) and told that if I had to pee, I should do it now. The nurse (Debbie) prepped me for my IV. And it was relatively easy compared to another experience I had when I was ten (let’s just say there were several attempts made involving sticking, missing and removing the needle into the thin veins on my little hand, shudder to think). I was also given an antibiotic to help ward off any potential infections after surgery. Then the anesthesiologist came in to verify some of the things from my medical history.
Then the anesthesiology assistant came in and started messing with the IV bags behind me. He offered to give me something to “help me relax” before the surgery. Mind you, I was just lying in the bed and I was pretty calm. I gave him a crazy look and told him that I would be fine and that he could just give me the drugs whenever they were actually ready to start the damn surgery (okay, I didn’t say “damn”, but I should have). He said “Sure” and walked out and I continued chitchatting with my mom. About five minutes later, he came back and disappeared behind me (where the IV stand was).
And that’s my last memory before realizing that I was being wheeled back from recovery.

Hey blogging fam. It’s been a long time.
I’ve been referencing one of the main causes for my absence from blogging for the last month or so: my gallbladder removal surgery.
I had my surgery on June 5 and I remember in the weeks leading up to the surgery, I scoured the web looking for someone to tell me about his or her experiences before and after the surgery. What foods would I be able to eat after? What won’t I be able to do? What should I do to prepare myself for the surgery? As I remember, I wasn’t able to find many people chronicling their own experiences.
Now I know that each experience is different and some (actually most) of the things I read up on and worried about did not affect me. But this is my experience with gall bladder removal surgery. Pull up a chair, grab some snacks and let’s get to it.
Excuses, Excuses…

Yada yada yada.
I had gallbladder removal surgery a week and a half ago. Gimme a break…
Life Experiences Over the Last Two Weeks

- There’s a stray cat (who’s name has varied from “Tommy” to “Frances” to “That Evil Demon Kitty” in my mind has been stalking me and taking up residence in the storage shed area of my townhouse and also, oddly enough, on the roof of my garage.

Not actual cat, but similar - Wine will get you to that “fucked-up” stage without you realizing what happened. Seriously, I had three glasses over an hour and a half and all of a sudden I was feeling nice!
- “Skidoosh!” is the best line ever and for that reason alone, I want to see Kung Fu Panda. I will watch up until the point he utters the line and then I’ll probably end up leaving the theater. Knowing my luck, it’ll be in the last five minutes of the damn movie.
- I want to get a computer built so I can use it for my graphics and web stuff and use my current laptop for my music production stuff. I’m afraid that the specifications I’ve come up with will end up in me spending $3000 for it.
- I realized that the reason I don’t go to roller skating rinks that often is because I don’t like wobbling, falling or almost running into walls in front of people who are skating backwards, crisscrossed and in general doing a more wonderful job of jam-skating than I probably ever will.
- I need the IRS to get me my stimulus check. NOW! I mean, I got my refund direct deposited like a week after filing and you guys sent me a notice telling me I’d get my stimulus check deposited by May 9 and I’m still waiting. Just saying. I need to get a new clothes dryer and do other stuff to stimulate the economy and whatnot.
- I’m torn between eating healthier or eating the worst foods ever. I don’t know whether to baby my gall bladder or mses with it so bad it would wish it had never given me problems.
- I need to find ways of developing myself so that I can actually turn around and help the community develop itself.
Netflix Addiction
Filed Under Tayo Speaks, What Do You Think?, Netflix | Leave a Comment
The title says it all. I have a Netflix addition. When I first heard about Netflix, I was like, okay they deliver DVDs to you, like pizza. Seems like a good idea. But I never was an early adopter (I’ll probably get around to getting an iPhone eventually, maybe in a couple of years, or something…)
But with the plethora of Netflix online ads popping up at me from different websites or seducing me with flashing lights, stock movie characters (zombies, I’m looking at you), and offers of a free trial, I finally succumbed.
Actually, the real motivation was the fact that I am interested in seeing the Sex and the City movie when it comes out at the end of the month and figured that I couldn’t go see the movie with out knowing about the series that inspired it. So I started off ordering the entire series. About 12 discs over six seasons. And I’m right on track because I’m currently waiting for the disc with the last six episodes of the series.
Okay. What now, Netflix? Oh, you want me to tell you what movies I’ve seen so you can recommend others? Okay. And 20 minutes later, I had rated over 200 movies and added a lot of movies to my movie queue. And about a day and a half later, I was popping in the first season of SATC.
A good thing about Netflix for me is that I can get movies that I would think twice about seeing in public. I really don’t need to go through the emotional stress of watching the Blockbuster clerk raise her eyebrows at me because I feel like renting the entire series of “My Little Pony“. With Netflix, all my hidden movies desires are soothed with those little red envelopes.
Here’s a sampling of movies from my movie queue: I Am Legend (even after seriously thinking about it, I never saw it in the theaters), Knocked Up (which I avoided because I was told of an unappetizing birthing scene), The entire series of The Wire (which I’ve always wanted to watch but never did because of 1 - no HBO, and 2 - I wanted to keep my idyllic impressions of Baltimore), and A Raisin in the Sun (which I missed when it premiered on ABC last month).
Now this isn’t a Netflix advertisement (but, uh, I am open and available to sponsorship opportunities if any Netflix exec stumbles upon this post…), so let’s get down to the real purpose of this post.
I know that once I get all the “Movies I’ve Missed” viewed and out of my system, I’ll move on to the more gritty/ avant garde movies. So, my question to you, blogging/reading fam is, what movies would you recommend that I get delivered to me soon?
Letting Go

Sometimes I get so confused with this blog. At first it was entertainment-based. But then I realized that I would have to be on top of my game to keep up with and post about all these celebs and their antics. I don’t have the time and I’m competitive, so I’d be upset about not getting the scoops out first, LOL.
Then maybe personal? Hey, I mean it is titled AllTayo.com. But then I’m very hesitant about revealing too much about myself on the web. I’m a private person, in general. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll talk your ear off about my issues if given a chance and if I trust in you enough, but online? For the world to see? Not your girl.
I’m not sure where I’m going with this, right now I’m rambling. I’ve been thinking about changing up the layout, but I’m being lazy and feeling a bit unmotivated to go through the whole process of picking a new layout, upgrading to Wordpress 2.5, blah blah blah, yackity-smackity…
I do think that I will start taking a few layers off, showing off some more of my personal stuff. The day-to-day crap.
Ugh, first off, I’ve mentioned in almost every post since like March that I’ve been busy. Basically, I’m busy working on three different websites. The first is for a candidate for local office (http://www.akinforallofleon.com), the second is for a community-based group that I’m in, the third is for a industry association. The kicker is that I’m not getting paid for any of these sites. They’re all pro-bono.
I’m glad I’m getting stuff for my portfolio, but I’m getting to the point where I feel like I should be getting paid for my work, ya know? I have a freelance company, Triple W Creations. I’ve only had one paying job. I know, I know, know, know that it’s because I’m not marketing my services enough, so that’s something I’ll have to work on , yeah? Just need to figure out the best way to do that.
Also, there’s a surgery I’m supposed to have that’s looming the next few weeks. I’ll elaborate more when the time gets closer. But I’m more worried about what happens after the surgery than the actual surgery itself. I’ve scared myself by reading other people’s stories online, but I have to keep reminding myself that each experience is different.
That’s that for now…

Gosh, I miss blogging. I’ve got to get back to doing this! I’ve been AWOL for a sec, so I’ll give you all a quick update.
First up, check out the post on Whatever Happened to Skee-Lo if you missed it the first time around. I didn’t even know that I would get as much feedback as I have but, there’s a bit of FYI from a friend of his apparently (it’s an anonymous comment, so you may want to take it with a grain of salt, but who knows?).
Second, ANTM. I have really been slacking on my ANTM recap duties. *hides face in hands* I’m not sure I’ll be able to successfully keep it up, so I’m throwing the reins to Rich over at FourFour . He has some pretty interesting takes on the episodes, but it’s pretty amusing and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
I’m glad that Whitney is still there, not because I actually like her, but because I think she may have made it further than any plus-sized model on the show (correct me if I’m wrong!) So, she’s made Top Model history. I’m predicting Anya and Dominique/Fatima in the final two. I just have this nagging suspicion that Anya will make it to the top. But who knows, right? (And oh my gosh, I’m about to gauge my eyes out because I have “Farmer Wants a Wife” on in the background and it is one of the most inane shows I’ve encountered in a while and that’s saying a lot considering the state of TV/reality TV at the moment.)
Thanks guys. I’ll be back soon. Promise.

Juanita Bynum to Appear on Divorce Court
Filed Under Entertainment News, I'm Just Sayin..., Tayo Speaks, Hollyweird, What Do You Think?, Juanita Bynum | 2 Comments
Okay, I’m scanning the Yahoo news clips and I ran across this. This Thursday and Friday (April 24 and 25), Televangelist Juanita Bynum is appearing on “Divorce Court” to finalize her divorce from Thomas W. Weeks, III.
Ya’ll remember those incidents from last August where Thomas assaulted Juanita. Juanita filed for divorce about a month later and Thomas was put on three years’ probation.
As the story goes, Juanita will discuss her relationship, domestic abuse case and her suicidal thoughts. Bynum also said that “she would always love Weeks, but made a decision to ‘love me more.’”
I just wonder what exactly is the point of going on “Divorce Court.” I mean, no offense intended to the show or to Miss Bynum, but “Divorce Court” is a showcase for dysfunctional relationships and marriages. It may be interesting to watch, but it is not a reputable show. I could appreciate Juanita going on Larry King Live, Oprah, or hell, even Bill O’Reilly if her heart was really into that, but “Divorce Court?” It feels like stunt casting to me.
Am I right or am I just making too much of it? Hit me up in the comments.
Just Some Updates

Sorry I’ve been gone so long, I’ve had a busy couple of weeks. Doing a lot of stuff at work and at home.
I’m involved in a local group called CEO (Community Empowerment Organization); it’s an offshoot of The League of Young Voters. We have been planning a spades tournament for the last six months (really really planning for the last two). In the last two weeks, we blanketed Tallahassee with thousands of flyers. Sent email blasts, sent Facebook invites, MySpace bulletins, etc, etc, etc. We needed 32 teams (64 people) to about break even. We got six real teams and two teams made up of some of CEO. Disappointing to say the least. Still had fun, I was eliminated in the first round with a score of (their) 7 points to (our) 2 points. But I think I held up my own for only learning how to play about three weeks ago.
While passing out flyers, we (a group of 4 twenty-something Black ladies) went out to one particular area on FSU campus. Basically they took part of fraternity row (you know, that street on College Campus USA that has all the Greek houses) and put in in this huge apartment complex-type thing, whatever. It hurt my heart a little because we got all types of stares from the white college students, like “Oh my gosh, it’s the Negroes! What do we do?!?!”
