We’ll See…

Watching this with a side-eye. It could go either way.

I’m a fan of Family Guy… admittedly I’ve probably seen every episode (thank you Adult Swim) but I dunno about this one.
My heart was a little hurt when I found out that Cleveland was voiced by a white guy. But I guess I should be reassured that Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long and Kevin Michael Richardson have signed on to voice some of the characters? I’m giving Seth McFarlane the benefit of the doubt for, like, three episodes before I make the final judgement. Get the full story here on Yahoo.
Also getting the side eye is Tropic Thunder. Lord knows that Robert Downey Jr is one of my white boy crushes but he’s pushing it with the new age blackface…
What do you think about all these “colorblind” casting choices? Hit me up in the comments.
Netflix Addiction
Filed Under Tayo Speaks, What Do You Think?, Netflix | Leave a Comment
The title says it all. I have a Netflix addition. When I first heard about Netflix, I was like, okay they deliver DVDs to you, like pizza. Seems like a good idea. But I never was an early adopter (I’ll probably get around to getting an iPhone eventually, maybe in a couple of years, or something…)
But with the plethora of Netflix online ads popping up at me from different websites or seducing me with flashing lights, stock movie characters (zombies, I’m looking at you), and offers of a free trial, I finally succumbed.
Actually, the real motivation was the fact that I am interested in seeing the Sex and the City movie when it comes out at the end of the month and figured that I couldn’t go see the movie with out knowing about the series that inspired it. So I started off ordering the entire series. About 12 discs over six seasons. And I’m right on track because I’m currently waiting for the disc with the last six episodes of the series.
Okay. What now, Netflix? Oh, you want me to tell you what movies I’ve seen so you can recommend others? Okay. And 20 minutes later, I had rated over 200 movies and added a lot of movies to my movie queue. And about a day and a half later, I was popping in the first season of SATC.
A good thing about Netflix for me is that I can get movies that I would think twice about seeing in public. I really don’t need to go through the emotional stress of watching the Blockbuster clerk raise her eyebrows at me because I feel like renting the entire series of “My Little Pony“. With Netflix, all my hidden movies desires are soothed with those little red envelopes.
Here’s a sampling of movies from my movie queue: I Am Legend (even after seriously thinking about it, I never saw it in the theaters), Knocked Up (which I avoided because I was told of an unappetizing birthing scene), The entire series of The Wire (which I’ve always wanted to watch but never did because of 1 - no HBO, and 2 - I wanted to keep my idyllic impressions of Baltimore), and A Raisin in the Sun (which I missed when it premiered on ABC last month).
Now this isn’t a Netflix advertisement (but, uh, I am open and available to sponsorship opportunities if any Netflix exec stumbles upon this post…), so let’s get down to the real purpose of this post.
I know that once I get all the “Movies I’ve Missed” viewed and out of my system, I’ll move on to the more gritty/ avant garde movies. So, my question to you, blogging/reading fam is, what movies would you recommend that I get delivered to me soon?
Juanita Bynum to Appear on Divorce Court
Filed Under Entertainment News, I'm Just Sayin..., Tayo Speaks, Hollyweird, What Do You Think?, Juanita Bynum | 2 Comments
Okay, I’m scanning the Yahoo news clips and I ran across this. This Thursday and Friday (April 24 and 25), Televangelist Juanita Bynum is appearing on “Divorce Court” to finalize her divorce from Thomas W. Weeks, III.
Ya’ll remember those incidents from last August where Thomas assaulted Juanita. Juanita filed for divorce about a month later and Thomas was put on three years’ probation.
As the story goes, Juanita will discuss her relationship, domestic abuse case and her suicidal thoughts. Bynum also said that “she would always love Weeks, but made a decision to ‘love me more.’”
I just wonder what exactly is the point of going on “Divorce Court.” I mean, no offense intended to the show or to Miss Bynum, but “Divorce Court” is a showcase for dysfunctional relationships and marriages. It may be interesting to watch, but it is not a reputable show. I could appreciate Juanita going on Larry King Live, Oprah, or hell, even Bill O’Reilly if her heart was really into that, but “Divorce Court?” It feels like stunt casting to me.
Am I right or am I just making too much of it? Hit me up in the comments.
Looking for Janet and Erykah
Filed Under Tayo Speaks, Yahh Bitch Yahh, Janet Jackson, New Music, What Do You Think?, Traaaggic..., Erykah Badu | 6 Comments

O-Kay. As you (should) know, Janet Jackson and Erykah Badu both released an album yesterday. I decided to support these two artists even though I sometimes borrow some people’s songs indefinitely off the Interwebs by going out to buy the CDs.
First stop: Best Buy. Janet was there, Erykah wasn’t. As I held onto Discipline, I wandered the rows of Best Buy looking for someone in a blue shirt who could tell me if there was a copy of Nu Amerkyah hidden in the back for me… no one. All the blue shirts were ghost. F-it. I’ll just go to Target.
Next up: Target. No Janet, no Erykah.
Next: um, Circuit City? Let me state for the record that Circuit City has the weakest selection of CDs. Of course, no Janet, no Erykah. Not even stock copies of “Worldwide Underground”, “Baduizm”, “Velvet Rope”, “Rhythm Nation”, nothing!
And I’ll be damned if I was going to go to Walmart to cop an edited CD. I like all my swears in their place, thanks very much.
So I came home, dejected. That said, has anyone gotten any of these CDs yet (or downloaded them legally or *ahem* not so legally)? What did you think of them? Should I continue my quest tomorrow?
New Year, New Plans
Filed Under Tayo Speaks, What Do You Think? | 2 Comments

Even though my boy Sincere (Happy Birthday!!!) is denying himself the perennial joy of making new year’s resolutions, I have decided to make some of my own.
These are things I feel I need to do in my life to make me better (it’s just easier to declare these things at the beginning of a new year).
- Be friendlier to people. Don’t get me wrong, I am friendly but I’m shy. And at times I tend to consider what benefit I may gain if I talk to such-and-such person. My goal is to have more friendly, random, “meaningless” conversations with new people throughout the year. I’ve been reading How to Talk to Anyone
by Leil Lowndes and I think it’s great for getting me going on this path.
- Eat more vegetables. Seriously, I have this whole weird Jedi mind trick resistant psychological block against eating vegetables. Not sure where it came from. If you ever meet me, ask me why I don’t eat broccoli. It’s a thrilling story. There’s also the Four Sense test (if it doesn’t look good, doesn’t taste good, doesn’t smell good, feels weird in my mouth). Wow, I said too much. Moving past that, I want to start introducing/re-introducing these foods that I have banned (vegetable or otherwise).
- Miscellaneous. There are always those miscellaneous things that you say you’re going to do. The easily broken resolutions such as lose weight, stop cussing, etc. Those will be in the back of my mind and hopefully some of those will come to pass this year (and every year onwards).
What are your resolutions? Or is there something you would like to accomplish this coming year and for the future? Let me know in the comments.
I’m at work, chillin’ like a villain waiting for 3:30 pm so I can leave (they’re letting us go early, woo-hoo!), so there’s a chance that the might be another post, but if not, have a happy New Year!
And don’t drink and drive. I mean, drink yourself silly if you want to and drive around town if you want to, just not at the same time.
Vectoring Rihanna (and Angelina) - First Try
Filed Under Rihanna, What Do You Think?, Vectoring, Graphic Design, Angelia Jolie | 5 Comments
So some of you may know that I’m a web designer in my everyday life. I’ve also been trying to add in some more graphic design expereince in there. I came upon Jerlyn Thomas’s vectoring tutorial and thought I would give it a try.
Here it is. What do you think? I made the pictures small so that I could display it effectively in this blog, but if anyone asks, I can also upload the full size version:

Seriously, I’m asking for comments, so tell me whatever you think about it - constructive only, please.
And I do not claim any copyright over the original images. I found them online. I only claim copyright on the vectored image (the creation, not the subject). There. That should cover me legally…
****UPDATE****
I did another one. Angelia Jolie.
Soon, I’m going to do someone who’s face-forward…
And then I’ll do a guy… I’m afraid of vectoring stubble, though! LOL!

Can I just say that I was disappointed to find out what Flo Rida looks like?
I had been trying my hardest to avoid his song “Low”, but living in Florida (and attempting to listen to urban radio) makes it 99.9% impossible.
Anyway, curiosity killed the cat and I wanted to see who it was that was responsible for the “she had them Apple Bottoms jeans, boots with the fur” line that was looping through my head.
I was expecting a Rich Boy/Hurricane Chris/Soulja Boy look-a-like. And I got this. Damn it all, he’s kinda cute and swole, too.
The voice does not match the image.

What Do You Think About It?
Filed Under Rants, Tayo Speaks, What Do You Think? | 2 Comments
I read a quote today:
“Social progress can be measured by the social position of the female sex.” - Karl Marx
Very profound. And kind of weird because about an hour before reading the quote, I found that after clicking through different links on different pages that I had gotten myself on the Karl Marx Wikipedia page. Funny. What started from a story about a Wagner opera turned into my trying to see if I could get an understanding of what communism is all about. Of course, all of that was too heavy to deal with while at work. Maybe one day, I’ll get a book on it…
Anyway, back to the quote.
“Social progress can be measured by the social position of the female sex.”
What type of social progress are we making? As a human race? As a country? In the Black community?
How are women viewed? Treated?
I’m interested in any reader’s insight about this quote.
